AIFA Continues to Receive Subsidies Despite Profitability

The Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Santa Lucia will continue receiving subsidies from the government, even after posting profits of 789 million pesos. For 2025, projected government income might not cover operational costs, prompting subsidies to remain crucial for its financial stability.

AIFA Continues to Receive Subsidies Despite Profitability

The Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will continue to be subsidized despite being profitable, as the government has requested 924 million pesos as part of the transfers planned in the Proposed Federal Expenditure Budget (PPEF) for next year. Inaugurated in March 2022, AIFA has surpassed its break-even point and has accumulated profits of 789 million pesos until the third quarter of this year, according to information published by El Financiero.

The budgeted income by the government for AIFA in 2025 will barely exceed 2 billion pesos, an amount that would not allow it to cover its operating costs, according to forecasts from the Treasury. Therefore, the airport has a surplus of 1 billion 189 million pesos in subsidies received during the current year, which would allow it to cover its projected expenses for the following year.

As of October, the airport located in Santa Lucía has registered a passenger flow of over 5 million, a figure achieved with a one-year delay compared to the initially planned. However, this figure strengthens its financial situation and gives it the capacity to operate with its own resources.

On the other hand, AIFA’s budget does not include allocations for the physical investment of the planned cargo warehouses, so the amount of 2 billion 800 million pesos for this development could come from private sources.
